I attended the orphans Christmas party on Sunday 18/11/2007 and had the most amazing experience ever. Playing with the kids and seeing their smiles and hearing them laugh was just incredible. It was the first children’s party I attended and I have to say it is definitely not the last. I remember how their faces lit up when their names were called out to receive presents. Two days before the party I had an idea that I thought would bring happiness to many children’s lives, and maybe even have a major impact on their future. I work in the aviation industry and I am in a better position to introduce these kids to aviation. I decided to arrange for the children to come and fly. Coincidentally my squadron had planned a day for kids to come flying on Friday 23/11/2007. I had 7 days to make it happen and no children to bring. With the help of Netta and Kleintjie from Hannes Dreyer’s office as well as Carol from MSportfolios I contacted two houses around Pretoria to bring their kids. I bargained for 30 children, unfortunately only 8 were able to make it. The day was still a success since most of them were experiencing the joy of flying for the first time. They also got an opportunity to sit with the pilots in the cockpit and observe. There is nothing in my experience than seeing a smile on a child’s face. I think I have found one of my purposes in life, and that is to bring smiles and happiness to as many children’s lives as I possibly can. When I joined the mentorship program, my primary focus was making lots of money. Little did I know that wealth creation is not only about making money but doing the things that bring joy to me and others without causing any harm. In the past 10 months I have learned a lot about myself and life as a whole. I have shifted my energy from things that do not matter and focused it on things that will help me reach my goals. The year 2007 will go down in my history as the year that I gained my sight. I was blind now I see.
